Mr. R. H. Bell, for many years surveyor of Hinds County and one of Jackson's best known citizens, died last night a half past eleven o'clock at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Charles Williams, corner of Carlisle and North State Street.

Death came suddenly and was due to heart failure. While Mr. Bell had not been in good health for some time he was up and about on yesterday. Within an hour after the attack came he had passed away. Mr. Bell was about 72 years of age and went to Washington D.C. where he resided with his daughter, Mrs. Williams, for some time. He leaves five children, three daughters and two sons, one of whom resides in Denver and the other at Shreveport. His third daughter, Mrs. A. M. Morgan, resides at 532 North Jefferson Street. The funeral will take place at that residence Sunday afternoon conducted by A. R. Smith, pastor of First Methodist Church, followed by interment at Greenwood Cemetery.

Honorary Pallbearers are: E. H. Reber, Col. R. J. Harding, S. Livingston, Capt. Frank Johnson, Capt. and J. W. Clingan. Active: Frank Spangler, H. Clay Sharkey, Alex Montgomery, J. Wad Home, Fred Lusk, Edward Fondren, J. Hunter Taylor and W. W. Downing.

Richard Hamilton Bell/Beall was born in Frederick Maryland and is believed to be the son of Basil #53770355 and Matilda Beall and the brother of Robert, James Hennis, and Sarah M. Beall, Roberts . In 1865 Richard married Landora (Lean) Amanda Glasscock in Madison County, MS. From their union came six children. Not linked below, Wesley Catlett 1866-1867, and Richard Ashby 1881-1926. Richard Ashby died in El Paso, Texas and his body was brought back to Jackson for burial, cemetery unknown.

Richard Hamilton served in the Civil War. Sergeant, MS 28th Cavalry, Company D. After the war Richard worked as a Surveyor for Hinds County until about 1910.
