George L. LaFortune

Well known South Gardner Man
Had Been Ill for Over Year

George L. LaFortune, 45 Union Street, died in his home at 7:20 last night after a long illness, of heart trouble. He would of been 51 years old next month. Although he had been ill at intervals over a period of nearly a year, the final illness was of only a few days, and his death came as a distinct shock to the family.
Mr. LaFortune who was in partnership with his son, George A. LaFortune, in a meat market and grocery store at 9 East Broadway, and was a partner in the E.C. LaFortune and Co., operating a furnishings and shoe store at 8 West Broadway, was very well known in the business and social life of the community. He had a wide circle of friends in every section of the city.
Born in St. Paul, Canada, the son of Pierre and Melvina (Forest) LaFortune, he came to Gardner about 22 years ago. By trade he was a stationary engineer, and work successively at the occupation in the factories of L.B. Ramsdell Co., Heywood-Wakefield Co., and S.K. Pierce Co. He was a member of the A.O.U.W. and the Foresters.
Besides his wife, Mrs. Emma (Primeau) LaFortune, he leaves several brothers and sisters, Arthur of Gardner, Oscar and Joseph of Winchendon, Mrs. Alphonse Croteau fo Gardner, Mrs. Josephine Lafreniere of Ashburnham, Mrs. Camille Beaudoin of Gardner, and Mrs. Frank Plante of Milford; three sons, Harry, Fliccord, and George A. of Gardner, and two grandchildren, Doris and Norma, also of this city.
The funeral will take place Saturday morning with a requiem mass in Holy Rosary Church, at 6 o'clock. Burial will be in Notre Dame cemetery.
