PRENTISS - I. Ralph Averill, 64, husband of the late Bernice (Worcester) Averill, died July 5, 1998, at a Lincoln hospital. He was born in Prentiss, Nov. 8, 1933, the son of Laurence and Bernice (Lindsay) Averill. Ralph graduated from Lee Academy and attended Ricker College. He owned and operated I.R. Averill, Inc., since 1960. He really enjoyed working and spent much of his life caring for his wife "Neni". He was a recipient of the "Inspiration Award" from Lee Academy. Ralph was an avid sports van, and enjoyed all sports, especially baseball. He loved country music with a special love for "Blue Grass."

He is survived by four children, Brent Averill and Jeannie of Prentiss, Glenda Shorey and "Chubby" of Macwahoc, Ira Ralph Averill III and Brenda of Prentiss, Scot Averill and Betty of Prentiss; nine grandchildren, Jill and Julie DeLaite, Derek, Joshua and Alex Averill, Adrienne and Shane Averill, Taylor and Zachary Averill; two sisters, Leone Allen of South Portland and Beverly Smart of Kennebunk; a brother, Laurence Averill Jr. of West Palm Beach, Fla.; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Clay Funeral Home in Lincoln. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Duane Waite officiating. Interment will be in the Belden Cemetery, Prentiss. Friends who wish may donate in his memory to the Ralph and Bernice Averill Scholarship at Lee Academy. Donations may be left at the funeral home.
