W.A. was the son of George Burnley Rorie and jane Capers Davis. On 1 January 1875 in Oglethorpe County, Georgia, he married Nancy G. "Nannie" Dorough. W.A. was a private in the Pettus Volunteers, Co. E, 9th Battalion Georgia Infantry during the Civil War. Then he served as Pvt, Co N, 37 Georgia Infantry, Confederate George Troops - His father, George B. Rorie, served in the same regiment and died as a result of injuries suffered in the Battle of Chickamauga in 1863.
