Tommy Lafayette Lambert served in the 531st Engineer Shore Regiment during WWII. After landings in Arzew, Algeria, and Sicily, Italy, his unit participated in the D-Day invasion landing at Utah Beach on 6 June 1944. Later that winter the unit, re-commissioned as the 3053rd Engineer (Combat) Battalion, deployed from Liege, Belgium deep into Germany with the 9th Army and saw action in the Battle of the Bulge. He also served in the Korean War in the 504th Transportation Truck Company. NOTE: Although his VA marker states his rank was Corporal (CPL), his highest rank was actually Sergeant (SGT).
