ROBERT B. NANCE
Dr. Robert Beverly Nance, 95, of 800 King's Way Road, Martinsville and formerly of Ridgeway, died Sunday, June 1, 2003, at Kings Grant.
He was born in Radford on May 18, 1908, to Beverly D. and Lula Carr Nance. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lennie C. Nance in 1986.
Nance graduated from Berea College in Kentucky and received his master's and doctorate degrees from the University of North Carolina where he was a member of Pi Delta Phi and Tau Kappa Alpha honor societies. After teaching for a period at Meredith College in Raleigh, N.C., he took a teaching position at Radford College in 1944 where he was chairman of the foreign language department until his retirement in 1972. After retiring he moved to Ridgeway and became a member and served as president of the Association of Retired Teachers of Martinsville and Henry County. He was a member of the Ridgeway Ruritan Club and the First Baptist Church of Ridgeway.
Surviving is one daughter, Linda L. Nance of Ridgeway.
A graveside funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mountain View Cemetery in Ridgeway with the Rev. Gary Edwards officiating. There will be no visitation.
