He was born in Kershaw County, a son of the late John and Minnie Byrd Holley.

Surviving are two brothers, Broadus and Joe Holley of Jefferson, and four sisters, Mrs. Juanita Hinson of Kershaw, Mrs. Ruth Lingle of West Columbia, Mrs. Lula Catoe and Mrs. Mamie Byrd of Cayce [all now deceased].
