She was born in 1937, in Laramie, the only child of Harvey Pangborn Hayes and Helen Catherine Hayes.
At age 6, her parents gave her, her first pony and elaborate tack.
She graduated in 1955 from Big Horn High School in Sheridan.
She attended college in Rapid City, S.D., and Laramie.
She lived in Wyoming until coming to Colorado with her husband, George B. Acker in 1975.
She married Jack E. Chieslar and they had two children, Jack Douglas and Sheri Lynn.
After his death, she wed William R. Lilley and they had one child, Teresa Dawn.
She married George Acker in 1973, and they have no children.
After her retirement in 1992, as a legal assistant to the Douglas County Colorado Attorney and her husband as a banker, they acquired the Owl Ranch on Wilson Creek, North of Simla, Colorado.
There she continued to raise, train and show quarter horses along with raising longhorn cattle with her husband.
They were each other's best "hired hands", and enjoyed their retirement years together immensely until 2006.
She became an avid and talented "horse person", a member of the Quarter Horse Association and a participant in many shows, where she made countless friends and won many ribbons.
She was an active participant and volunteer in several other organizations as well.
Beginning in 2002, when advised of her health situation, she voluntarily participated with the University Hospital in Denver in outpatient tests of advanced medications and treatments for Alzheimer's disease. There, she earned their great respect, and hopefully contributed to future methods of cure for the disease.
She is survived by her husband, George; children, Jack Douglas Chieslar of St. Anthony Idaho; Sheri Lynn Bressler and her husband of Greeley, Colo., Teresa Dawn Tapp Stetson of Riverton; stepsons Tim Acker and his wife of Omaha, Neb. and Tom Acker of Dallas, Texas, four grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.
Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.
