Elizabeth Hawkes
Elizabeth Mary Hawkes died March 3, 2002, at the age of 47.
She was born Jan. 12, 1955, in Lockhart, Calif., to parents Phyllis and Jerry Fiscus. She lived in Southern California until age 6, then San Bernardino, Cucamonga, Fontana, Blythe, West Minster. She later loved to Yakima, Wash., with her mother for 1 1/2 years, then moved to Portland with her mother and stepfather Earle McKissick.
She attended grade school and high school in Oregon City. From 1972-74, she enlisted in the U.S. Army. She married Eric Hawkes, who she met while still in the Army. They were married for three years. While living in Anchorage, Alaska, she studied medical records technology and received a degree. After two years in Alaska, she returned to Culver in July 1977 to be near her mother, Phyllis Coffelt and stepfather Ken Coffelt, and other members of her family.
She worked as a nurses aid in hospitals and nursing homes in Central Oregon, and continued in the field of nursing, wanting to earn a nursing degree. She resided in Culver, Madras and Metolius. She always enjoyed caring for people and that is what her life was centered around. Her last job was a East Cascade Assisted Care Center in Madras.
Her special interests included embroidery, traveling on short trips with her dog Valentine, the outdoors, fishing with her brother, Buzz, and especially dancing. She was known by the nickname "Tiger" among her friends.
Survivors include her mother, Phyllis Coffelt of Metolius; father, Jerry Fiscus of Hinkely, Calif.; sisters, Susan Anderson of Culver, and Jeanette Williams of Clifton, Tenn.; brothers, John fiscus of Barstow, Calif., and Melvin Fiscus of Culver; stepsister, Donna Escobar of Concord, Calif.; stepbrothers, Dennis McKissick of Clackamas, and Danny Fiscus of Central California; uncle, John Kunst of Wapato, Wash.; 12 nieces; six nephews; 11 grand-nieces; and 10 grand-nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Jack "Uncle Buzz" Fiscus.
Funeral services were held March 8, at the Culver Nazarene Church. Burial was at Gray Butte Cemetery.
