ASHTABULA - - Helen Scott Morrison, age 95, died at her home in Ashtabula, Ohio, on Thursday, April 26, 2007.
She was born in Mortlach, Saskatchewan, Canada, on Jan. 13, 1912, the daughter of Geraldine (Ostrander) and William Scott. Following her mother's death when Helen was six years old, the family moved to Ashtabula where Helen graduated from Ashtabula High School.
She then worked for the Illuminating Co. until her marriage to Robert Stanley Morrison on July 22, 1937. She then helped her husband with bookkeeping for all of his various endeavors through their 62 years of marriage.
Helen was active and enjoyed friendships in many community projects. She was a Den Mother for the Boy Scouts, she was a Girl Scout leader, setting a record for cookie sales with the family dining room filled to the ceiling with boxes of cookies. Helen treasured her lifetime membership in the Order of Eastern Star. She was a member of the Hill & Dale Garden Club and was gifted in flower arranging; a member of the Women's Service League; Second Congregational Church; and various bridge clubs, a game in which she excelled. She was a past board member of the Ashtabula County Animal Protective League. Her involvement with the APL encouraged her husband to lead the drive to build the new animal shelter in 1991. The matriarch of Molded Fiber Glass, she served on the board offering her advice and support for many years.
Helen carefully nurtured her family, her gardens and her pets. She provided compassionate homes for many homeless dogs and cats.
