Samuel D. Artis, 69, of 21760 E. Road 950N, died unexpectedly at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. He was found in a half-full corn wagon by his son, Charles Lynn Artis, while the two were combining corn at their farm at 21335 E. Road 950N.

Dr. Kenneth Schneider, Artis's physician, said death was apparently caused by a heart attack.

Funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. David Harker at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Norman Funeral Home in Hope. Calling hours will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday. Burial will be at Hawcreek Cemetery in Hope.

Artis was born Jan. 16, 1915, in Brown County, the son of William and Josephine Lucas Artis. He married Mary M. Shirley in 1943, and she survives. He was a veteran of the second world war, a member of Hope First Baptist Church and Hope American Legion.

Surviving besides his wife and son are one sister, Gladys Taulman of Wayne-Ohio Township Road; two brothers, William Artis of Fairdale, Ky., and Koert Artis of Clifford, and three grandchildren.
