My mother was the daughter of Arthur Ward Vincent & Margaret (Marjorie) Irene (Halliday) Vincent. She was their only girl. Grace had three older brothers Charles Lansing, Ross Arthur & Everitt Lawrence Vincent. She died of Coronary Artery disease but I have always said she died of a broken heart.
She married my dad on Sept 24,1939 at the age of 16. The were very happily married for 52 1/2 years before Dad died two years before her. She then had a stroke shortly before and was never the same. After dad died she lost her reason to live. Mom was about, I would say 5 ft. 5 inches tall give or take an inch or 2. Black thick hair and eyes of hazel. She dearly loved her family and children.
Her parents always lived with us and we all got along fine. She had a gypsy soul and loved to travel. We lived in Alaska 2 years in Anchorage where her oldest brother and family lived. She loved pretty things a very gentle soul. She loved to garden, make pot holders, quilts, cook, scrapbook, read, write short stories & poetry. She collected stamps and buttons and kept a diary faithfully all her life. She worked on genealogy.
She wore glasses until middle age then didn't need them anymore. She could read a book or more in less then a day and remember everything she read. Her favorite book was "Trail of The Lonesome Pine" She read to us as children every night before bed. She was always laughing and at times a nervous person. She had some of her poetry and a short story published at one time. Her faith in God was never shaken no matter what tragedy struck. She was an insulin dependent diabetic.
