After a nine-year courageous battle with ovarian cancer, Adele Shklanka, beloved wife of Alex Shklanka, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 19, 2007, with her family at her side, at Agape Manor, at the age of 68 years.

Born in Allan, SK, Adele married Alex in 1960. They started their married life in Estevan, SK, moving to Didsbury, AB in 1962, Calgary in 1982 and Airdrie in 1991. Adele enjoyed spending many summers with her family and friends at their cottage at Sylvan Lake and, after retirement in 1989, many winters in Arizona. As a young girl she took a keen interest in her religion and never left it until her death. She participated in several prayer groups over the years and had a strong faith in God. Her positive attitude helped her immensely in fighting her disease and prolonging her life. Adele excelled in oil painting and her many paintings will be treasured by her family. She volunteered at the Didsbury Hospital and was a member of the Didsbury Kinette and K-40 Clubs.

Adele was a kind and unselfish person whose family meant everything to her. She was predeceased by her father, Joseph Hagel, and younger sister Rosemarie. Besides her husband she is survived by three sons Mark (Marina), David and Don (Geri); four granddaughters and three step-granddaughters. Adele is also survived by her mother Brigetta; sister Doreen and brothers Victor and Raymond, all of Saskatoon.

Funeral Mass celebrated at St. Paul's Catholic Church (1305 Main Street, Airdrie) on Thursday, November 22, 2007.

From obituary published in the Calgary Herald on 11/20/2007.
