In June of 1900, 19-year-old Ida was working for a paper company and living with her family in the Village of Plainwell, Allegan County, Michigan. On September 18, 1902, she married Plainwell barber Byron Chapman, a son of Louisa Hicks Chapman and the late John Chapman, in Allegan. Ida and Byron's daughter, Myrtha, arrived on March 19, 1904, when the Chapmans still resided in Plainwell. They relocated to the City of Niles, Berrien County, Michigan, by 1910, where Byron's mother (Mrs. Pinchin) lived, and he opened his own barber shop.
Ida was remarried on February 12, 1918, in Allegan to Carl M. Storms; both were then residents of Plainwell, although they and Myrtha were in Niles by 1920. Ida was back in Plainwell in 1930, residing with her married daughter's family at 318 Allegan Street—the same address they'd lived at when Carl registered for the draft in 1918. Although not enumerated with him in 1930, Ida and Carl were together in Trowbridge, Allegan County, when the 1940 census was taken; that record places the couple in Eaton Rapids, MI, five years prior. In 1942 they resided in Otsego, Allegan County.
Ida rests beside Carl, who predeceased her by only six months.
Thank You to Marylin for locating and photographing the Storms' headstone, and for transcribing Ida's 1960 obituary from the Kalamazoo Gazette as follows:
