Burkhart Relative & 1st Generation Oregonian.
Crill Davidson Burkhart was born on his family's donation land claim near Harrisburg, Linn County, Oregon, on Nov 28th, 1864. He was one of twelve children born to his parents, Coriolanus Domarus "Crill" (1821-1881) and Caroline Lavinia (Goff) Burkhart (1835-1892), who had traveled the Oregon Trail in 1847 to help settle the Albany, Oregon area with his father's family of ten mostly adult children, some of whom had wives. Their donation land claims ranged from Albany to Lebanon to Harrisburg areas. Crill obtained a college education before marrying Lola Amelia Froman at her parents' home on December 17th, 1885*. He and Lola moved to Eugene, Lane County, Oregon, where he was a Teamster, then later a rock crusher. He and Lola were blessed with three (possibly four) children. Their 1st child was a son, Tommy Leander, who was born in 1889 but died in 1892. He was buried at the Masonic Cemetery, at Albany, Linn County, Oregon. Their 2nd child, a daughter, was named Zella Maysel; she was born on June 4th, 1891. A 2nd daughter, named Verl Eliza Creille, was born on March 13, 1892. Both daughters reached adulthood, attended and graduated from college with teaching degrees. Both Zella and Verl would become teachers, teaching in Albany, Linn and Lane county public schools all of their adult lives and neither would marry, choosing to remain single. In 1920, Crill and Lola moved onto a farm near Harrisburg, raising crops and livestock. When the 1930 census was taken, the area they were living in was called Rowland. [It is now just a road near Harrisburg and Interstate 5.] Crill died suddenly on Nov 19th, 1936 from a cerebral hemorrhage. He was buried near his son who had died so long ago. His dear wife, Lola, never remarried but remained a widow until her death on March 14th, 1955 at the age of 87 yrs. She was buried next to her beloved husband at the Masonic Cemetery in Albany. Zella and Verl both passed away in the 1980's and are buried together near their parents at the Masonic Cemetery in Albany, Linn County, Oregon. Zella was very independent until her later years. May they all Rest, at Peace, together in Paradise.
Crill Davidson Burkhart is my 1st Cousin, 3 times removed.
*I found their marriage certificate for sale on EBay and purchased it, along with Lola's adult baptismal certificate (1909), and an article stating that there was a blizzard just after they married, which placed the celebration on "hold" (article is from 1935 re: blizzard "50 years ago") and letter from Amelia to her husband to be. Purchased Dec 23rd, 2016 on EBay.
