Nettie "Peggy" Austin, 89, passed away Friday, May 22, 2009, at a local hospital with her family present. Nettie was born January 7, 1920, in Mt. Ayer, Iowa.

Nettie married Averal Austin in 1937 and immediately came to Ukiah to work on the Yokayo Ranch. In 1943, they moved to Potter Valley to work on the Ingel-Haven, now the Magruder Ranch. From 1952 until 1983, they leased the Boynton Orchards on Powerhouse Road. Nettie worked in the Potter Valley Store from 1955 to 1965 and the Ukiah General Hospital from 1972 until 1984. She was a member of the Potter Valley United Methodist Church.

Nettie was proud of her wonderful children, who will always remember her amazing love for her family, and her husband, Averal.

Nettie is survived by her son, Fred, and his wife, Judy Austin; grandchildren, Steve and Terrie Dean, Amy and Myles Gilbert, Jeffery and Carrie Andrade, Erin Austin; close friend, Matt Boyce; numerous great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Nettie was preceded in death by her husband, Averal, in 1985; and her daughter, Patti Jo Dean, in 1996.

A private service will be held at the Potter Valley Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Eversole Mortuary.
