Eugene was the son of Glen Small Barrow and Bertha Diefenbach. He was born and raised in Harrison, Ohio. Eugene served as a Navy radio gunner on a TBM Avenger, on the USS Hancock. His plane crashed in enemy territory over Hong Kong, near the Tai Tam Country Park on Jan. 16, 1945. His remains have not yet been recovered.
