SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Michael N. "Mic" O'Connor, 54, Springfield, formerly of St. Joseph, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2008, at a Springfield hospital.
Mic was born July 6, 1953, in St. Joseph. He was a graduate of St. Patrick's Grade School, Bishop LeBlond High School and Missouri Western State University.
He married Mary Jane Elliott on July 19, 1975, at St. John's Church in Amazonia, Mo.
Mic worked in the food industry for over 30 years, working for Seitz, Farmland and Armour & Co. in St. Joseph before moving to Springfield in 2006 and becoming self-employed in Tulla Sales.
He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Springfield. While living in St. Joseph, Mic was a 4th degree knight in Knights of Columbus Council No. 571; had been a member of Moila Shrine Temple and served on the school board of Bishop LeBlond High School. He was also a charter member and first president of the Ancient Order of Hibernians in St. Joseph.
Mic was preceded in death by his parents, Francis Patrick and Ruth Ann (Nelson) O'Connor.
He is survived by wife, Mary Jane of the home; son, Daniel Francis O'Connor of Charleston, S.C.; sons, Patrick Michael O'Connor, John Paul O'Connor; and daughter, Kate Lysbeth "Katie" Boyer, and husband, Miles, all of Springfield; three sisters, Kathie O'Connor, Scottsdale, Ariz.; Karen Manion, Sarasota, Fla.; and Peggy Dillon, and husband, Steve, St. Joseph; granddaughter, Camille Ruth Boyer, Springfield; and several nieces, nephews and great-nephews.
Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Thursday, St. Joseph Cathedral, St. Joseph. Private inurnment: at a later date.
Visitation: begins after 10 a.m. Wednesday, at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, St. Joseph, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and a rosary will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Cathedral School or Second Harvest Food Bank.
