Solomon was born in a log house in Bedford,Ohio in April 1842, the eldest child of Alonzo Drake and his wife.
He enlisted at the age of 20, August 8,1862, as a Corporal. He was mustered into Co."A" Ohio 103rd Infantry. He was discharged for wounds suffered in battle on January 1(8?), 1863 at Lexington, Kentucky. His name is on the base of the Civil War monument in Bedford Square, Bedford, Ohio, and also on Panel #13 in the Cuyahoga Co. Soldiers & Sailors Monument, Public Square, Cleveland, Ohio.
About 1865 Solomon married Sarah S. Barlow, who was born in Ohio in May 1844. They had six children, 5 of whom were living in 1900. Among them were: Mary, b Ohio,Nov 1878; Sarah, b Ohio, June 1881 and Alonzo,b Ohio, Sept 1883.
Soloman owned his own farm in Bedford Township. He lived on the Drake farm for 48 years, then moved to Wooster, where he died at age 84, on June 8, 1926. (1900 Census) He was buried in Bedford Cemetery, June 10,1925. (Cem. Rec.) (Bedford Times-Register, Dec.14, 1995, page 5)
