He attended Trinity College when the name was changed to Duke University. He played shortstop on the last Trinity baseball team (1924) and first Duke baseball team (1925). He worked for Carolina Power and Light Co. before WWII.
He joined the Army Air Force as a volunteer on June 9, 1942, and attained the rank of Captain. He served in Guam during World War II.
After the war he became a partner with his brothers in the Carr Spring Co. Upon retirement, he became a Real Estate Broker and opened his own firm.
