MRS. FANNIE BOND DIES
FORMER COBURG RESIDENT PASSES AT SUTHERLIN
Mrs. Fannie Burton Bond, wife of M.C. Bond, for many years a resident of Coburg, Lane county, died at her home at Sutherlin yesterday. Mrs. Bond was well known in this vicinity, having resided not only at Coburg but at Springfield and was a daughter of the late Senator Burton of the latter place.
Besides her husband she is survived by two sons, Guy and Merle, and several sisters.
The funeral will be held at Sutherlin this forenoon at 10 o'clock and the remains will be brought to Coburg for interment in the family plot, at 3 p.m.
Rev. C.E. Dunham, pastor of the First Baptist church will conduct the services. ~~~
NOTES:
Fannie Burton was one of the ten children of 1852 Lane County pioneers Adolphus Dollie Burton & Martha Ann (Goodpasture) Burton. Her parents were farmers and ranchers near Springfield and her father served in the Oregon Territorial legistlature.
Fannie (Burton) Bond was the granddaughter of Eugene settlers Alexander Goodpasture & Elizabeth (Moss) Goodpasture Gillespie. Her step-grandather was Rev. Jacob Gillespie, who also served in the Oregon Territorial legistlature. He founded the Cumberland (now Central) Presbyterian Church in Eugene and founded Eugene's Columbia College, the precursor of the University of Oregon.
Melvin C. Bond and Fannie (Burton) Bond's eldest son, 14-year-old Lawrence Melvin Bond, was killed in a hunting accident near Coburg.
Fannie Bond succumbed to bulbar paralysis, a.k.a. amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), later known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.
