Jackson came to Long Beach in 1897 after graduating from Purdue University and bought the city's first drug store, then located at 139 Pine in 1899. In 1899 he and Nina Cuthbert were the first couple married in the recently completed First Methodist Church at 5th and Pine. At his death the couple resided at 3920 Lime Avenue. Jackson was the last remaining charter member of the Sons of Veterans of the Civil War.
