D. I. Neher, the Frankfort lumber man, died in St. Vincent hospital, Indianapolis, Monday, his death having followed an operation for the removal of gallstones.

Dan Neher, sometimes called "Little Dan," to distinguish him from his cousin, "Big Dan," was a son of Joe Neher. He was born and reared on a farm two miles south of Rossville.

Joe Neher was twice married. By his first union he sired three sons – John, George F., and Joe. By his second marriage he was the father of two sons – Daniel I. and Stephen.

In early life D. I. Neher married Miss Lile Sayler. Nearly all the Neher boys worked with timber for a livelihood. George F., Joe and Stephen were handle makers. Joe lost his life while working at a handle machine over in Ross township. Stephen, a handle maker, died when a young man. D. I. engaged in the sawmill line, and was very successful. His big trucks scoured this territory for logs which were hauled to the mill in Frankfort. At one time he operated a mill in Orlando, Fla., and, we believe, he had a mill at Noblesville at one time.

Mr. Neher was 70 years of age. He is survived by his wife, five married daughters and two sons. The funeral service was conducted on Thursday afternoon, by Rev. Stinebaugh, of the Brethren church.
