Prominent Lexington KY banker and one of the four original men who raised money to begin the Lexington Cemetery. He served as it's first treasurer. At the time of his death Scott had been president of the Northern Bank of Kentucky for six years. His son, also named Matthew T. Scott, was the founder of Chenoa, IL and a business partner of Adlai E. Stevenson. They were also brothers-in-law having married sisters. Adlai E. Stevenson was Vice President of the United States and the Grandfather of Adlai Stevenson who ran, unsuccessfully, for president against Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1952 and 1956.
