Andrew was first a traveling salesman for a cigar company and sales seemed to suit him. He lived at 223 Morse Street during that time. He opened his own Towel Business in Pittsburgh in the Jenkins Arcade Building called the Ivory Linen Service Company.
Andrew married Mary Ellen Larkins July 4, 1877 in Pittsburgh and they had 2 children, Florence Irene Ivory (1878 - 1966) who became a dentist and Royal Harry Ivory (1883 - 1943) who was the Department of Personnel Manager at Standard Oil Company of California in Richmond California. Mary Ellen (1856 -1886) died at age 30. In 1995 he married as his 2nd wife (no issue) Georgeanna Outlow.
