Ward Pinkerton was the son of William Ward Pinkerton and Lura VanElla Kayser.

He married Maye Belle Greenhaw on 14 August 1939 in Brownfield, Terry County, Texas.
Ward and Maye Belle had one son and three daughters.

He married Ruby Jewel Polk on 25 June 1967 in Halfway, Hale County, Texas.
They had two sons.

Ward was owner/operator of Halfway Grocery and Station in Halfway, Hale County, Texas.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Funeral services for Charles Ward Pinkerton 83, of Halfway, Texas, will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Sane Brue, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home.

Mr. Pinkerton died at 5:52 p.m., Sunday, December 29, 1996 at St. Mary's Hospital in Lubbock, Texas.

He was born March 15, 1913, in Halfway, Texas, in the house that is now located at Hale County Farm and Ranch Museum in Hale Center, Texas. He grew up in the Halfway community and owned the Halfway Grocery and Market from 1937 to 1978.

He had worked for Precinct 4 since 1979 and was a volunteer for the Halfway Volunteer Fire Department, serving as Fire Chief for several years. He was one of the founders of the Halfway Water Supply and was active in Little League ball team, Boy Scout leader, and worked with the Lions Club and 4-H.

He married Maye Belle Greenhaw August 14, 1939.
He married Ruby Polk on June 25, 1967 in Halfway, Texas.

Survivors include Ruby, his wife, three sons, William Ward Pinkerton of Fort Worth, Texas, Rex Pinkerton of Halfway, Texas, and Kit Pinkerton, of Plainview, Texas, three daughters, Sylvia Harmon of Claude, Texas, Gladys Pinkerton, of Fort Worth, Texas, Rhonda Ellis, of Texas; one sister, Helen Hart of Mission; two brothers, Allen Pinkerton of Rockville, Maryland, and Cecil Pinkerton of Tampa, Florida, 10 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to Trinity United Methodist Church or to the American Cancer Society.
