Reatha Mae D. McFadden, daughter of the late John and Icebelle McDowell Dickey was born in Sumter County on October 21, 1921. She departed this life on Wednesday night, December 29, 1993 at 12:01am. It was exactly 24 hours after my mother's birthday. Even in spirit, she was remarkable and her love knew no boundaries.

She was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. She joined the Asbury Methodist Church at an early age. She later joined the St. Matthew A.M.E. Church where she served as a faithful member of the Missionary Society, Usher Board and the Steward Board until her health kept from her duties.

She was joined in holy matrimony with John Henry McFadden on March 10, 1946. Three children blessed this union. She was "Big Annie" to all whose lives she touched. A humble, yet strong influence to all who knew her, for she met "no stranger". She always believed that there was good in everyone. A life lesson that she instilled in her children and grandchildren. She will surely be missed.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories, her husband, John Henry McFadden of Lynchburg, SC; two daughters, Virginia Hicks of Baltimore, MD and Betty Wilson of Lynchburg, SC; one son, Odell McFadden of Washington, DC; two sons-in-law, Nathan Wayman Hicks of Baltimore, MD and James Wilson of Lynchburg, SC; one daughter-in-law, Sally McFadden of New York City, NY; six grandchildren, Stacey, Horatio, Derrick, Vymekia, Brian and LeAnn; one great-grandson, Brandon; two sisters, Dorothy (Dolly) Dickey of Lynchburg, SC and Ivy Stukes (Rudy) of Olanta, SC; four brothers, Theodore (Lizzie) Dickey of Cartersville, SC, Hampie (Ozzie Belle) Dickey and Roberta (Luella) Dickey of Lynchburg, SC, James (Perla Mae) of Olanta, SC. She was also sister to the late Maebelle McFadden and the late Carrie Bell Dickey.

She also leaves to mourn four sisters-in-law, Reatha Graham and Janie Lee Wilson both of Lynchburg, SC, Mary Hawkins of Baltimore, MD and Julia Mae McFadden of Sumter, SC; six brothers-in-law, Clarence, Wayman, Woodrow and Lewis McFadden all of Baltimore, MD, Tommy McFadden of Sumter, SC and Mack Wilson of Lynchburg, SC; a devoted adopted niece, Jeanne Lowery of Lynchburg, SC; two aunts, Mary Hughes of Lynchburg, SC and Lizzie Gamble of Baltimore, MD, and a host of other beloved family and friends.

My Grandfather's Dedication to my Grandmother:

For the love you've always shown
In a way that's all your own
For being the dearest friend and wife I've known
I love you "Ree"
