John Henry McFadden, son of the late Samuel McFadden and Ida Kennedy and stepmother, Doshie McFadden was born in Lee County on October 17, 1917. He departed this life at Dorn VA Medical Center on Friday, April 24, 1998.

He was educated in the public schools in Lee County. He joined St. Matthew A.M.E. Church at an early age service as a faithful member as a Trustee and a member of the Sunday School Class. He was also a World War II Veteran who served in Okinawa, Japan.

He was joined in holy matrimony with the late Reatha Mae McFadden on March 10, 1946. Three children blessed this union. He was "Uncle John" to all who knew him. My grandfather was a kind, giving person who believed in working hard to provide for his family. A quiet, but loving person, he was loved by family and friends dearly. He will surely be missed.

He leaves to cherish his loving memories: two daughters, Virginia Hicks of Baltimore, MD and Betty Wilson of Lynchburg, SC; one son, Odell McFadden of Baltimore, MD; two sons-in-law, Nathan Wayman Hicks of Baltimore, MD and James Wilson of Lynchburg, SC; six grandchildren, Stacey, Horatio, Derrick, Vymekia, Brian and LeAnn; one great-grandson, Brandon; three sisters, Reatha Graham of Lynchburg, SC, Ethel Mae Wilson of Sumter,SC and Mary Hawkins of Baltimore, MD; six brothers, Clarence, Wayman, Woodrow, and Lewis McFadden all of Baltimore, MD, Thomas McFadden of Lynchburg, SC, Herbert Wilson (deceased), Samuel McFadden, Jr. (deceased), Eula Mae Fulton (deceased). He also leaves to mourn two sisters-in-law, Dolly Dickey of Lynchburg,SC, and Ivy Stukes (Ruby) of Olanta, SC; four brothers-in-law, Theodore (Lizzie) Dickey of Cartersville, SC, Hampie (Ozzie Bell)Dickey and Robert(Luella) Dickey of Lynchburg, SC, and James (Perla Mae) of Olanta, SC; a devoted adopted niece, Jeanne Lowery of Lynchburg, SC and a host of other beloved family and friends.

The Children's Dedication to my Grandfather:

For everything you've done for us,
For raising us so happily,
For being dear as dear can be,
We love you, father dear,
For patience and for constant care,
For readiness to give and share,
For all the times when you were there,
We love you, Father.
