Aged 33 years. He is on the same tombstone as his brother...opposite side. Husband of Julia Gordon Touchette, father of Elma Ann, Loren Gordon, Albert, Lorene M. and John Frederick. Son of Joseph and Charlotte Onessima Vient Touchette. Born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, he was the 9th of 13 children. He spent most of his early life working in the saw mills of Fond du Lac, as a shingle maker. On the 23rd of May, 1887, he married Julia Gordon, in Manistee, Michigan. After their marriage, they moved with brother Frederick and his family to the Cottage Grove area of Oregon. There his son John Frederick Touchette was born. At that time, Lane County was one of the state's principal area for the logging industry. From the 1890's to the 1950's, the major settlements in the area where logging communities. The Culp Creek area, where both John and Frederick are buried, was a lumber area. Lane County was also a major gold mining/production area from 1891-1950; it was one of the largest and most productive areas in the western cascades. The Cottage Grove area especially was rich in gold. Whether it was their skills in the sawmills or a quest to strike it rich by mining, the brothers both died and are buried at Culp Creek. Julie and John Frederick moved back to Wisconsin.
Update: John and Frederick built Touchette Lumber Mill, outside Cottage Grove, in 1895.
