Mrs. Lela Jane Reynolds Deal was born in Saline County, near Sweet Springs, December 18, 1880. She was the daughter of the late John William and Sarah Jane Johnson Reynolds. Mrs. Deal received her education in the elementary schools of the county and attended the Baptist Female College at Lexington. She was married in 1901 at the home of her uncle, William Johnson near Slater, to George R. Deal, who preceded her in death March 26, 1941.
For a, few years following her marriage, Mrs. Deal gave piano lessons at her home. She was a member of the Marshall Methodist Church and had been a resident of Marshall the last 40 years, coming here from a farm north of Marshall.
Surviving are her nephew, G. M. Deal, her step-mother, Mrs. John W. Reynolds two half sisters, Mrs. Roy Deal and Mrs. Verel Reynolds, all of Chillicothe.
An East Eastwood neighbor of Mrs. Deal said of her today: For a great many years Mr. and Mrs. Deal lived on Eastwood and they were exceptionally fine neighbors. Having no children of their own they took into their home G. M. Deal, a nephew of Mr. Deal whose mother, grandmother and grandfather were killed in a railroad accident. Upon him they lavished all the attention due a real son, giving him a good education and instilling in him the principles that make for appreciation of worthwhile living
This love was reciprocated by G. M. and his wife, Ellen, who have been a real son and daughter to Mrs. Deal during her latter years. Especially during her last illness have they generously given of their time to visit her and make her as comfortable as possible. In fact, they saw to it that everything possible was done for her. The love shown her was appreciated so much and Mrs. Deal spoke many times of this wonderful care when her friends and neighbors visited her while she was hospitalized.
