Betty was the last of 10 children born to William Moffett and Abbie Sering Moffett. She was raised in Peoria, Illinois.

She remained very close to her siblings throughout their lives including following several siblings to California in 1943.

Betty's brother-in-law, Burke Wombacher, introduced her to Sam Hermann when they both worked at Caterpillar in Illinois. Betty and Sam married in 1943 and were happily married until Sam's death in 1978. They had no children though they were very close to their nieces and nephews.

Betty was a very nice woman, an accomplished sewer and very active (traveling, going to the theater, and attending exercise class into her late 70's). Although she was active, she did not learn to drive until Sam died (she was 62 years old).

Betty was a devout Presbyterian including being a deacon and volunteering many hours at the church.

Every holiday was a big party of the whole large "Moffett" family, sometimes growing to 30 people. She and her 3 sisters and 1 brother that lived in Los Angeles County would meet weekly to bowl and see one another (3 of the 4 sisters died within 15 months of one another).

Betty was my aunt.
