When he first came to Georgia he lived in Walker County, now Catoosa County, at the foot of Taylor's ridge,at the Ford of the Middle Chickamauga Creek. When the Civil War began he was living in the Peavine Community in Walker County Georgia and joined the 4th Georgia Cavalry.He was captured December 3 1863 near Knoxville Tennessee by Union Forces and became a POW, sent to Rock Island Illinois, a Federal prison, and died of smallpox on the 23rd of June,1864,he is buried in grave #252 south of the prison barracks. He never returned home to his family but he will always be remembered,a true son of the South who gave all.
