Gladys Evelda Haynes was the tenth child born to Richard Wilkinson Haynes and Johanna Clara Knoch Haynes. She was born at the Goose Valley Haynes Ranch just before the family moved to their next "Haynes Ranch" at the foot of Hatchet Mountain near Burney, the former Litrell Place. Family story has it that in abt 1925, Gladys was riding her horse swiftly through the woods on the ranch and was knocked severely in the head by a tree branch affecting her mental being. The family sought medical help from several places and it was finally decided she would live in the Napa State Hospital. She died there in 1945 at the age of 38 years.
