Anna Wilhelmina "Minnie" Christine Volmert
Birth: 15 Jan 1874 at Wöhrden, Schleswig-Holstein, Dithmarschen, Germany
Death: 2 Oct 1949 at Hines (Long Beach), Los Angeles county, California

Married: 23 Aug 1893 to Henry Fredrich Hamann near Omaha, Douglas County, Nebraska.
Children:
John Frederich Hamann, Anna M. (Hamann) Gardner, Helen (Hamann) Kieffer, Ida (Hamann) Wood, Ruby (Hamann) Lowe, Dorothea (Dorothy) Elizabeth (Hamann) Pavlacky, Henry Rosebud Hamann, Alice (Hamann) Brockman, and Burneta Gertrude (Hamann) Fischer.

Mother: Dora Clausen
[Anna Elsabea Dorothea Claussen]
Father: Peter Volmert
[These are the names listed on the marriage license on file in the county court house, Omaha, Douglas County, Nebraska.]

Miss Welhelmina "Minnie" Volmert, at age 18, boarded the Augusta Victoria at Hamburg, Germany which departed 24 Jun 1892 bound for Southampton and Ellis Island, New York, New York, USA. Minnie was, apparently, travelling by herself. It is not known who sent for her, who paid her passage, who sponsored her, or who met her in New York (if anyone did). By whatever means, Minnie arrived at a place near Elkhorn (Chicago District/Omaha), Douglas county, Nebraska. Family tradition says she worked as an indentured person for a family named Claussen at this place.

On August 23rd, 1893 Anna Wilhelmina "Minnie" Christine Volmert married Henry Hamann of Douglas County, Nebraska. They settled together near Elkhorn (Chicago District/Omaha), Douglas county, Nebraska. Here they remained until 1910 at which time they obtained a homestead at Herrick (later Spring Valley), Gregory County, South Dakota. Here they pursued faming and stock raising. They raised a family of nine children.

Sometime before 1940, Henry's health began to fail. It is not known from what malady he suffered. It was, evidently, a lengthy progression of failing health. Their younger son took over running the ranch and his parents moved into Burke for a period of time. Less than one month before his demise, Henry and Minnie moved back to the ranch with their son and his wife.

Nothing is known about Minnie's life during the next nine years. Apparently, in 1949, Minnie traveled to Hines (Long Beach), Los Angeles county, California to visit her eldest son, John Fredrich Hamann. According to the California Death Index 1940-1997 this is where Minnie died. She was sent back to Burke, Gregory county, South Dakota for burial in Graceland Cemetery next to her beloved husband.
