In his adulthood, Leslie lived in several different homes. An animal lover, he often visited the farm of Darvin and Pauline Stockdale, near Reedley, CA. The Stockdales eventually invited Leslie to live with them and became his foster parents.
When Mr. Stockdale passed away, in 1992, Leslie was deeply grieved. He, thereafter, publically expressed his belief in Jesus and was baptized at the First Mennonite Church in Reedley on November 22nd of that same year.
In the late 1990s, Leslie moved to Fresno; working in various janitorial jobs as part of an adult day program. He transfered his church membership to College Community Church Mennonite Brethren in 2004. He attended services regularly and was an active participant in the Friendship Sunday School class. He soon assumed the role of 'Greeter', offering his welcoming hand to all who would grasp it.
Leslie died at Clovis Community Hospital. His ready smile will be missed.
