A Laurel County woman was killed Thursday aftersnoon when her car collided head-on with an empty Laurel County school bus on Hopper Creek Road.
Guileth Marie Thornton, 29, of London, was pronounced dead at the screen after police say her westbound 1984 Toyota Celica crossed over into the path of a bus driven by Deborah Brock, 43, also of London.
Brock was on her way to Bush Elementary School to pick up students from an afternoon tutoring program, and was the only person aboard the bus.
She was not injured.
The accident occurred at approximately at 4:15 p.m. Thornton was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, which left her pinned inside of her vehicle.
She was removed by members of the Laurel County Rescue Squad and pronounced dead by Laurel County Deputy Coroner Britt Brown. Brock was wearing her seat belt.
School officials said counselors were made available at Campground Elementary School to help with any problems. Thornton had a daughter in the fourth grade at Campground, as does Brock.
The accident is being investigated by Kentucky State Police Trooper Craig Sutton.
