Annie (Margaret) Oaks, age 67, of Morrilton, formerly of Bigelow, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2006. Margaret was born Feb. 23, 1939, in Bigelow, Ark., a daughter of the late Paul Clayton Oaks and Esther Lea (Grayson) Oaks. Margaret was a part of the Cottonwood family for 16 years. She was a caring person who was more concerned about the welfare of others than she was herself. She was unselfish in giving and always ready to help when needed. She enjoyed cooking and could fry some good chicken. She always said that she took care of her brothers and sisters and she would help her mama cook. Margaret enjoyed the early morning when she had one-on-one time with the staff, drinking her morning coffee and catching up on the news. She loved riding around in the country and going to social functions, especially the annual Cottonwood Christmas party. She enjoyed visiting with her family and friends, and attending church was one of her favorite pastimes. She enjoyed watching I Love Lucy and watching or listening to anything that involved Elvis. Margaret had special relationships with her peers, especially her long-time roommate. Being the social type she was, no matter where she went there was always someone she knew. We often kidded Margaret, telling her she would make an excellent door greeter for Wal-Mart; though, of course, customers would never get to finish their shopping for Margaret loving to visit. Margaret was employed at the Faulkner Day School in Conway, where she did contract work. Margaret touched many lives at Cottonwood, her place of work and throughout the community. She holds a dear place in our hearts, and, though her absence will be felt by all of us, her love of Cottonwood and our love for her will carry on the fond memories that were created throughout our time together. Margaret was a member of the Bigelow Baptist Church, and in the last 16 years she attended the Morrilton Christian Center. She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Clayton Oaks, and her mother, Esther Lea Oaks; her sister, Norma Ruth Oaks; and brother, Leo Clayton Oaks. She is survived by her brothers, Tom Oaks of Bigelow, Fred Oaks and wife Linda of Quitman, Mike Oaks and wife Mary of Little Rock, and Larry Oaks and wife Karen of Wooster; sister, Marilyn Bingham and husband David of Oppelo; 14 nephews; six nieces; 13 great-nephews; 19 great-nieces; and four great-great nieces. Funeral services were 2 p.m Monday, Nov. 13, 2006, at Bigelow Baptist Church with Dr. Bill Brown and the Rev. Larry Miller officiating. Burial was at Volman Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton. Pallbearers were nephews, Tony Oaks, Tommy Oaks, Paul Oaks, Russell Oaks, Tim Bingham and Greg Oaks. Honorary pallbearers were John Oaks, Clayton Oaks, Mark Oaks, Matt Oaks, David Moore, Jeremy Bingham and Josh Oaks.
