Leander J. Altenhofen, a resident of Pierz, MN, died Aug. 23, 2003, at the Staples Care Center in Staples, MN.

Mass of Christian Burial was on Aug. 26 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz, with Father Gerald Dalseth officiating. Burial was at a later date.

Leander J. Altenhofen was born on Aug. 8, 1940, in Pierz, MN, to the late William and Florence (Perusse) Altenhofen. He was raised in Pierz and he joined the U.S. Army when he turned 18 years old. He was in Japan for three years and upon returning from Japan, he worked briefly as a nursing assistant. Leander then worked for Super Value warehouse receiving. He married Margie M. Hennen on Oct. 23, 1986 in Little Falls. Upon retiring, Leander started work at Banner Bus Company. He also bartended at the Red Rooster in Genola, and worked at the Pierz Co-op, and various other jobs to keep himself busy. He loved fishing and visiting with his family and his friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Verner and Charles; sister-in-law Randi Marie Altenhofen.
