Clara Mae Slocum was born in Sedalia, Mo,the daughter of Arthur C. Slocum and Genevieve McCracken Housel. She married Hollis Hickman the love of her life on Sept 7, 1934. She lived most of her life surrounded by her close knit family. Preceding her in death was her mother, father, husband and sisters Genevieve (Jenny) Watson, Helen J. LaClair, Thelma Kelly, and Jack Slocum. She leaves to mourn her death two sons, Stan Hickman of Nev and Gary Hickman of Houston, Texas. She also leaves 7 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.. Before her death she resided with her son Gary W. Hickman in Houston, Texas and was lovingly cared for by her son and granddaughter Tammy Hickman Naylor. She loved flowers and was an able gardener. She could make pie's that melted in your mouth and she loved to knit and crochet. As a young mother she always took great pride in her pretty crochet dresses and shoes to match. She was adored by her close friends that she grew up with, admired and loved by all her family. One of her granddaughter in laws said of her once," She is a bird." I'm sure she meant that Clara Mae sang all the time and never hurt a person in her life. That has to be her memorial. By Daughter in Law Bonnie Morris Hickman Conrad
