Obituary
Death of Joel Cunningham
Joel Cunningham died at his residence at Locust Corners, in the town of Pitsford, April 14th, 1883. He was born June 26th, 1794, in the town of Hoosic, Rensselaer Co., N. Y. At the age of four years his parents moved to Millford, Otsego county, N. Y., and in the year 1810 they moved to Clarance, Erie county, N. Y.
He enlisted and served in the war of 1812, and was an eye witness to the burning of Buffalo.
He was married to Miss Celinda Dosskings, May 27, 1821. He was a residence of Clarance forty-one years, and moved from there to Michigan in April 1851.
He and his companion lived together almost sixty two years, and during that time they allowed nothing to come between them to disturb their happiness. It has been a common remark, "how happy those old people are," but the one has been takin and the other still remains with us.
The deceased was the father of ten children, all of whom lived to have families. There are living to-day forty-two grandchildren and forty-seven great-grand-children. This is the first death that has occured in the home of the deceased, of his own family.
This happy couple celebrated their golden wedding twelve years ago the 27th of next May.
The funeral took place from the F.W, B. church April 17th, 1883, and was largely attended. The services were conducted by the Rev. E. Pimlot.
