E. C. Ripley Dies at 96
Poultney Man Had Been Town Official for More Than 50 Years; Rites Tuesday.

POULTNEY (Special) The funeral of Edward Clarence Ripley, 96, veteran town official and former Poultney town representative, will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Roberts-Lantman Funeral Home here.

The Rev. Stephen Collins, pastor of Trinity Episcopal Church, will officiate.
Burial will be In the family lot in Poultney Cemetery, where a Masonic service will be conducted by Morning Star Lodge of Poultney.

Mr. Ripley died late Saturday in a Poultney nursing home after a long illness. He was born in East Poultney Aug. 14, 1861, son of Charles and Esther (Morse) Ripley. He was president for many year of the former Ripley Lumber Co. here.

He formerly served as moderator for 32 years, auditor for 14 years, lister for 50 years and justice of the peace for 53 years. He represented Poultney in five sessions of the Legislature.
He was a member and past master of Morning Star Lodge from which he received his 50-year pin in March, 1951.

A member and past patron of Evergreen Chapter, Eastern Star, he was the first member to join after the chapter was chartered. He received his 50 year pin there in October 1955.

Mr. Ripley is survived by daughter, Mrs. Arthur Lewis of Poultney; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Ripley Grant and Mrs. Edna Randall, both of Johnstown, N. Y., a niece and four nephews.
Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 2 to 4, and 7 to 9 p.m. Evergreen Chapter, OES will conduct services Monday at 8 pm.
