After an illness of over six weeks Mr. John Chaffin passed peacefully away at his home at 7 o'clock Sunday morning.

He had been in delicate health for a number of years, but since the sudden death of his wife about a year ago he apparently lost all desire to live longer and gradually grew weaker until the end, which had been expected for some little time.

Mr. Chaffin was born in Richmond, Va., sixty-five years ago, and came to Wyoming in 1869, for the benefit of his health. He became cashier of the Wilson bank shortly after his arrival here, and later served faithfully in a number of county and government positions. He had not been in active business for the past twelve years.

He was the sole survivor of his brothers and sisters but leaves five children, Howard in Chicago, Mrs. Wilson in Alaska, Fred who resides in Denver, and Misses Eva and Flossie at home.

Mr. Fred Chaffin left Denver yesterday morning to come to this city to visit his father, but arrived here just a few hours after his death.

In view of the emaciated condition of the remains it was considered best to have the funeral as soon as possible so that the service took place this afternoon at St. Mark's church, being conducted by the Rev. Dr. Rafter. The burial was beside the grave of his late beloved wife in the city cemetery.
