DR. MARSTON DEAD

EXPIRES VERY SUDDENLY IN HIS OFFICE IN THE OPERA HOUSE BLOCK.

Was Seen Apparently In the Best of Health Only Ten Minutes Before—Was Reposing In a Chair, a Medical Journal In His Hand.
__________________________

The community was much startled shortly after 2 o'clock this afternoon by the information that Dr. Marston had been discovered dead in a chair in his room in the opera house block. Only ten minutes previous to the discovery Mr. Holcomb saw Dr. Marston pass his store in the same block and mount the stairs to his office. He passed the office of the Denver News editor and said good afternoon and passed through his door into the room where he was discovered a short time afterward.

Ex-Mayor Merrill had occasion to call at the office of the doctor at 2 o'clock and on opening the door he saw the physician apparently dozing, with a medical journal in one hand, the other hand hanging by his side. It was only an instant before Mr. Merrill discovered that the doctor was unconscious and apparently dead. Others were immediately called in and Drs. Grimes and Barber summoned.

The exact cause of death is not yet known, but it is supposed the heart gave out.

Dr. Marston was between 56 and 57 years old, and had been in Cheyenne fourteen years, arriving here in the fall of 1883. Before coming to Wyoming Dr. Marston served in the United States army and was in many battles with the Indians in the western states. He resided for a length of time at Fort McKinney and Fort Laramie, and it was from the latter place that he moved to Fort Russell and thence to Cheyenne.

A wife resides at 25 West Ninety-ninth street, New York, and a son, Wortell, is at present in Princeton college. A nephew, Frank Johnson, formerly of Cheyenne, now resides at Denver. All these relatives were appraised of the sudden death at once. The unfortunate occurrence struck the community as a mightly blow, as Dr. Marston is well known and a favorite.

Walter Stoll, a close friend of the deceased, visited him last night, and during the evening did not observe anything out of the ordinary in the doctor’s looks or actions. Dr. Rafter conversed with the physician this morning and says that while he appeared slightly indisposed there was nothing to indicate the sudden death that followed.

No arrangements will be made for the funeral until the relatives are heard from.
