Naomi Anne Quine, 89, died Jan. 25, 1997, of natural causes, at the Mary Conrad Center in Anchorage. A memorial service was at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Muldoon. Her cremains were interred at the Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery in the Catholic section.
Mrs. Quine was born June 10, 1907, in Toledo, Ohio. She held a bachelor of arts with highest honors from Oberlin University in Ohio and she had many graduate credits at Harvard University and London University. She was awarded a full scholarship to Oberlin and held a 4.0 grade point average all through high school and college. After spending summers and the month of December in Alaska for nine years she became a resident of Anchorage in 1993. Mrs. Quine was employed as a mathematician at McDonnell Douglas in Torrance, Calif., from 1949 to 1954; an elementary school teacher in Palos Verdes, Calif., from 1955 to 1960; and as a real estate agent in Manhattan Beach, Calif., from 1962 to 1967. She then retired in 1967. Her hobbies included writing poetry, bridge, cooking and travel. She had traveled extensively in Europe and the Middle East and had lived in London for 14 years. Her family said, ''She had a joy for living that stayed with her to the end. She never met a stranger and to know her was to love her. She leaves a hole in our hearts and lives that can never be filled. However, our memories of her will continue to light our way. Some of her happiest memories were of her eight years on Mercer Island, Wash. She made many good friends during those years.''
Mrs. Quine is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Michael Roberts of Anchorage, and Norma Quine of London; grandchildren, Melissa O'Brien of Old Snohomish, Wash., and Ben Roberts of Anchorage; and great-grandson, Jesse Rice of Old Snohomish. Arrangements are with Anchorage Funeral Home.
