John Park Brown emigrated from Scotland in 1880 with his wife Jessie. He was a poet, a horticulturalist, a lover of music, a family-oriented man and a gentle man. He was a gregarious and well-loved member of his community. His poetry can be found in the Gale Gordon Library and the library at Brown University. He was known to those close to him as Grandpa Brown. He had a lovely garden at his home on Liberty Street and owned/rented other properties around Elgin-including one to my grandparents, Earl and Opal O'Farrell. My mother spent many afternoons in the garden with John Park's family as a child although by then both of his wives had passed away and he lived with his daughter and son-in-law in his house on Liberty Street.
