James Henry "Butch" Beals - Stuart was the third child of Olga Hagen Beals and Evan Harold Beals. Jim was born in Silverton, Or., and baptized at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Silverton. He attended school in Springfield, Or. When his mother married Walter Stuart Jim transferred to Cascade High School in Turner, Oregon. He was adopted by Walter Stuart his step father and changed his name to Stuart. Jim enrolled in Western Oregon University (OCE) studying to be a teacher. When the Viet Nam war occurred he enlisted in the Marine Corp. Jim was killed in action on September 7, 1967 at Quang Tri Vietnam. He was a kind person with a gentle disposition who was greatly loved by his friends and family.Jim is survived by his sister Berniece Beals Hiatt and brother Carl Beals.
He was awarded a Purple Heart medal. His name appears on the Vietnam Memorial Wall.
