Amada C. Aguayo, 86, died on Monday, August 18, 2008 surrounded by her family. Amada was the devoted wife of Dr. Santiago E. Aguayo, deceased. She is survived by a sister, Piedad Cordova of Guayaquil, Ecuador; a brother, Enrique Cordova (Esperanza) of Queens, NY; a son, Santiago Aguayo (Kristen) of Syracuse; daughters, Dana Sturick (Walter) of Syracuse and Katiana Scalione (Lewis) of Jersey City, NJ; seven grandchildren, Dennis Aguayo (Lisa), Dr. Gina Aguayo-Murray (Brian), Santina Stankevich (Matthew), Anastasia Sturick, Michael and Stephen Aguayo and Benjamin Scalione; three great-granddaughters, Hannah and Isabella Aguayo and Anna Stankevich; several nieces and nephews in Queens, NY and Guayaquil. She was predeceased by a sister, Fanny Cordova; and brothers, Luis and Alberto Cordova. Amada was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador; she was the daughter of the late Santiago and Maria (Esquierdo) Cordova. She attended the University of Guayaquil before moving to the United States in 1958 with her husband and young children. She became an American citizen in 1977 and was a resident of Syracuse for 47 years. Amada loved to sew and was an accomplished dressmaker. She was a member of the Syracuse Latin American Ladies Club. Amada enjoyed sketching and took great pleasure tending her rose garden. She will be missed by her family and friends. Calling hours will be held 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, August 22 at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, 4612 S. Salina Street, Syracuse. Funeral services will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday, August 23, 2008 in St. Michael's Church, 4782 W. Seneca Turnpike, Syracuse where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will be in Onondaga Valley Cemetery, Syracuse. Contributions may be made to St. Michael's Church, 4782 West Seneca Turnpike, Syracuse, NY 13215.
