My mother, Edith, barely remembered her father, but did remember the funeral to some extent. Apparently the remembrance of the many carnations at the service, caused her to dislike the flower.
Ostes was married to my grandmother, Madelyn Lydia Briggs, on 18 April, 1910. They had four children in the following order: Juanita, Orval (Jack), Edith and the youngest, Ostes Thomas, Jr. (Tom). All have passed on. Tom and Jack died relatively young from heart attacks: Tom in 1956 and Jack in 1964. Both Juanita and Edith died from cancer. Juanita in 1988 and Edith in 1992. My grandmother, Madelyn, died on 20 May 1985 at the age of 92.
