In the 1890's Charles Bechtel was of Pottstown's best-known baseball players. He was a pitcher of the team that traveled all over Eastern Pennsylvania. He worked for many years at the Glasgow Iron company as a heater. He narrowly escaped the fire at the company on January 2, 1920, which destroyed the mill.
