Stanley was born in Philadelphia, the youngest of three (or four?) sons of Thomas J and Adeline (Kyle) Morton. He lived his life in Philadelphia except for a couple years in the Army during the Spanish-American War and some time later in his life in Washington, DC. He married Louise (Gwynn) Morton in Philadelphia and they had eight children, all born in Philadelphia. Stanley was variously a boiler maker, boiler layer-outer, and boiler coverer, mostly in shipyards in the Philadelphia area.
